MonaLisa Touch Q & A

What is the MonaLisa Touch?

The MonaLisa Touch is a laser-based treatment that can bring about vaginal rejuvenation for women. The treatment does not require anesthesia and is performed right in Dr. Mazarei's office.

What Can the MonaLisa Touch Treatment Help With?

The MonaLisa Touch treatment can help with vaginal dryness, itchiness or burning in the vaginal area, and pain during intercourse. These symptoms can be a common byproduct of aging or giving birth, but all of these symptoms are often dramatically reduced or even corrected with a series of MonaLisa Touch treatments. This treatment can also help correct vaginal laxity when it occurs due to the decline of muscle tone.

How Does the Treatment Work?

MonaLisa Touch treatments are outpatient and are completed in only around 5 minutes each. While the patient lays comfortably, Dr. Mazarei will use the MonaLisa Touch laser to precisely deliver a measured amount of carbon dioxide to the tissues of the vaginal wall. This encourages the cells to create new collagen naturally. The creation of the new collagen is what allows for symptom relief.

How Many Treatments Are Needed?

Most patients respond best to a series of treatment. 3 treatments are typically needed for optimal vaginal rejuvenation, however, results may vary. Treatments are usually scheduled approximately 30 to 60 days apart to allow time for new collagen growth between sessions.

Who Can Get MonaLisa Touch Treatment?

Women who are struggling with symptoms caused by menopause are often ideal candidates for MonaLisa Touch treatment. The treatment can also benefit women who want to prevent issues like vaginal dryness and painful intercourse as they move into their menopausal years and do not wish to undergo more extensive surgery or pursue hormone replacement treatments. Since the MonaLisa laser is non-invasive and requires no anesthesia, most women can be appropriate candidates for this type of treatment.
